Character

In order to be eligible for the grant of an Australian visa, you must be considered to be of good character. This means you must pass the visa ‘character test’ – which typically means you have no criminal record, or if you have a criminal record that you are able to explain the circumstances to the Government, and they are satisfied that you will remain in good standing.

If you have served in the military of any country you must disclose this on your application as well. Additionally, you must never lie on any application or statement to the Department of Home Affairs.

A failure to pass the character test is fatal to your application and can prevent you from success in future visa applications as well.

If you are found to have lied on any application, or you commit a criminal offence while holding an Australian visa, your visa is likely to be cancelled and, if so, you will be removed from the country. So, at all costs, please remain on your best behaviour!
